A few days back we have informed our readers that Wimbledon 2020 may be postponed or get cancelled. It was hoped that tournament management may reschedule due to Covid-19 situation all around the world.
But unfortunately, this event has now been cancelled, as confirmed by the officials of the event. The management of the event has said
It is with great regret that the Main Board of the All England Club (AELTC) and the Committee of Management of The Championship’s (Administration) have today decided that The Championships 2020 will be cancelled due to public health concerns linked to the coronavirus epidemic. The next 134th edition of the Championships will instead be staged from 28 June to 11 July 2021.Official Statement by the management
It was not an easy decision as said by Ian Hewitt, AELTC Chairman. But public health is most important for us. It was interrupted by world wars in the past. It’s the best way to cancel rather than to postpone, as it’s a global crisis. We can use Wimbledon resources to help our local communities and beyond.
Richard Lewis CBE, AELTC Chief Executive has stated
Our efforts will now be focused on contributing to the emergency response and supporting those affected by the coronavirus crisis.Richard Lewis CBE
