Wimbledon 2020: First Grand Slam of Year Devastated by Coronavirus

Sadly true Wimbledon 2020 Season has been Canceled

A few days back we have informed to our readers that Wimbledon 2020 may be postponed or get cancelled. It was hoped that tournament management may reschedule due to Covid-19 situation all around the world.

But unfortunately, this event has now been cancelled, as confirmed by the officials of the event. The management of the event has said

It is with great regret that the Main Board of the All England Club (AELTC) and the Committee of Management of The Championships have today decided that The Championships 2020 will be cancelled due to public health concerns linked to the coronavirus epidemic. The 134th Championships will instead be staged from 28 June to 11 July 2021.

Official Statement by the management

It was not an easy decision as said by the Ian Hewitt, AELTC Chairman. But public health is most important for us. It was interrupted by world wars in the past. It’s best way to cancel rather than to postpone, as it’s global cirisis. We can use Wimbledon resources to help our local communities and beyond.

Richard Lewis CBE, AELTC Chief Executive has stated

Our efforts will now be focused on contributing to the emergency response and supporting those affected by the coronavirus crisis. We have begun distributing medical equipment and offered the use of our facilities.

What about Purchased Tickets of Wimbledon 2020?

As of course tickets will be refunded by the administration. Ticket holders will have the choice to either purchase the ticket for the same day and court for Wimbledon 2021, or have a refund. Management will contact ticket holders directly in this regard.
